Associate Dean Honored by Honor Society

PULLMAN, Wash. — Beta Gamma Sigma, a scholastic honor society for business and
economics students, announced recently it is honoring Ernst Stromsdorfer in April for his
service as the Washington State University chapter’s faculty adviser.
Stromsdorfer, associate dean for research and extended programs at the WSU College of
Business and Economics, served as the Beta Gamma Sigma adviser from June 1993 until recently,
when he turned the position over to fellow associate dean Chris Paxson.
Beta Gamma Sigma was founded as a national organization in 1913 to encourage and honor
academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the
practice of business. The group has 400,000 members and is part of the Association of College
Honor Societies.
“It’s a very valuable program for the business school,” Stromsdorfer said, “because it gives
recognition for scholarship. We believe this is an important contribution to maintaining the
sense that scholarship matters in business. It goes on a person’s resume and should help get
them their first job. That’s what I see as the value of being a member.”
Stromsdorfer is retiring from being a full-time associate dean this July, but plans on
continuing at WSU for two years to manage the WSU extended degree business program for
off-campus students. He joined the WSU economics faculty in 1983 and became associate dean
in 1993.
