PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University pianist Susan Chan will present her fall recital program during a Dec. 1 performance.
The 8 p.m. program is planned for Pullman Presbyterian Church, 1630 NE Stadium Way, Pullman. The concert is free to the public, but a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students and youths is encouraged. Proceeds will support the church’s organ and church musician scholarship funds.
Chan has received numerous awards in piano competitions and has performed on four continents, including a recent workshop and performance tour of France, England and the Netherlands. She has completed a recording of French classical women composers on the Hester Park label.
The pianist holds the Doctor of Music degree in Piano from Indiana University and joined the WSU faculty in 1994. She has served the Pullman Presbyterian Church as its organist/accompanist since January 1995.
The program will feature French and French-influenced pieces by Franck, Debussy, Messiaen and Lizst. They were selected to recognize the support of her Paris workshop by the church scholarship fund, the Washington State Arts Commission and WSU. She will also perform the selections during an upcoming tour in Hong Kong.
Chan will perform seasonal selections from Messiaen’s “Vingt Regards sur l’enfant Jésus” (“Twenty Contemplations on the Infant Jesus”). She will perform the program on the Boston grand piano acquired for the dedication of the church’s new sanctuary in April 1997.
