WSU Sororities Plan Service Week

PULLMAN, Wash. — More than 150 Washington State University sorority members are expected to take part in several community service activities Nov. 2-8 as Panhellenic sponsors the first Sorority Service Week.
“We see this as an opportunity to give back to the Pullman/Moscow community,” said Kris Laurente, Panhellenic vice president-finance. “There are many volunteer opportunities in our community that go unnoticed. This service week is designed to encourage sorority women to get involved.”
The women will participate in a variety of projects, ranging from classroom aides and YMCA Big Buddies to decorating and hosting socials at local retirement homes.
“Individually, chapters often raise money for a cause,” said Sara Labberton, Panhellenic public relations vice president. “We wanted to take this project to the next level by donating our time. Chapters will be working together on these projects, so not only will it create ties within our sorority system, but also within the community.”
Activities were organized by WSU’s Community Service Learning Center staff. CSLC is open to any volunteers who wish to find service activities.
