McDonald’s Celebrates WSU Alumni Centennial

PULLMAN, Wash. — A campaign recognizing the centennial celebration of Washington State
University’s Alumni Association began this week at 75 McDonald’s restaurants in Eastern Washington and
North Idaho.
More than a million paper tray liners being distributed through Nov. 21, the date of the annual Apple
Cup between WSU and the University of Washington, boast highlights of WSU alumni history. The liners
also include entry forms for drawings for 150 tickets to the Apple Cup and for two $3,000 scholarships.
Winners of the scholarships will be drawn on game day.
McDonald’s, in cooperation with Coca Cola, will also distribute some 750,000 commemorative cups
promoting the game and the WSU Alumni Association’s 100th anniversary.
Creative services for the campaign and funds for the scholarships are being provided by the Seattle
advertising agency, Elgin DDB. In addition, television spots will appear in Spokane and Yakima supporting
the promotion.
The WSU Alumni Association was formed in 1898, eight years after WSU was created by the first
state legislature in 1890. WSU has 125,000 alumni throughout the country and around the world.
Association President Craig Gable of Renton expressed his appreciation to Elgin DDB and
McDonald’s for their support for “this wonderful opportunity to showcase the association’s centennial
celebration.”
