PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University faculty member and vocalist Shelia Kearney Converse will perform a program of music written by women next week.
The program, set for 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Pullman’s Simpson United Methodist Church, will feature the music from females composers Barbara Strozzi, Josephine Lang and Augusta Holmes. The program will finish with a set of songs by Judith Lang Zaimont.
“Zaimont uses extended techniques to create different sounds, including playing an eskimo drum, holding sostenuto chords on the piano, and having the clarinetist play with only his mouthpiece,” Converse said.
Converse has performed with the Long Beach Grand Opera, the New Jersey Opera, the Opera of Central Kentucky, the Lexington Symphony, the Walla Walla Symphony and the Washington Idaho Symphony.
Accompanying Converse for the program will be pianist Meg Kelley, clarinetist Roger Cole, celloist Linda Wharton.
Converse also will present the program Sunday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. in the University of Idaho Music Recital Hall. Both are open to the public without charge.
