PULLMAN, Wash. — Two Washington State University pharmacy students and one pharmacy professor were among a group of 12 students and professionals from around the country to receive $500 scholarships for their leadership and service in patient education-based health service programs.
The scholarships were awarded by the American Pharmaceutical Association(APhA)/3M Partners for a Healthy Community Scholarship Program.
Each scholarship recipient has been involved in health service programs at WSU or in the local community.
Jennifer R. Lutz, a third year professional student from Republic, assisted in setting up an immunization program administered by pharmacists in a local pharmacy.
David M. Pressutti, Jr., a third year professional student from Clovis, Calif., is co-director of WSU’s Peer Health Educator (PHE) program. The PHE program, in partnership with Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho, is a student volunteer program that focuses on educating other students on various health care subjects and self care procedures.
Stephen M. Setter, an assistant professor of pharmacy practice, participated in the F.I.T. Stop program, which tests participants for blood pressure, percent body fat, cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility capabilities.
The scholarship program is administered by the APhA and supported by an educational grant from 3M Pharmaceuticals.
