PULLMAN, Wash. — Eight Washington State University parents have won top honors in WSU’s Dining Services’ third annual “Recipe from Home” contest. More than 176 recipes were received from six countries and 11 states, including 79 cities in the state of Washington.
The 1997-98 winners and winning recipes are Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies by Dawn Bisson of Hillsboro, Ore; Strawberry Jello Salad by Kathy Buchanan, and PJ’s Spokane Bread by Paula Johnson, both of Spokane; Grilled Flank Steak by Debbie Calabrese of Mukilteo; Cheese Bubble Bread by Kathi Hendrix of Selah; Mexican Black Beans and Rice by Janelle Kortlever of Bothell; Cobblestone Bars by Terry Oergel of Rainier; and Grilled Bessies by Jamie Palmer of Twin Falls, Idaho.
The recipes have been tested in the Dining Services test kitchen. Dining Services had 26 guests participating in the final judging in early March.
The eight winners will be presented with the “Crimson Plate Award” at an awards luncheon on April 17 at Rotunda Dining Center.
According to dining officials, the objective of the contest was to test new recipes that can be used in the dining centers as well as create positive customer/parent relations with Dining Services. Entry forms were mailed to the parents or guardians of all residence hall students. They were asked to submit their son’s or daughter’s favorite recipe into the contest.
