WSU Asia Program Begins Program Series

PULLMAN, Wash.–The Washington State University Asia Program begins a series of talks Wednesday on current issues in those areas of the world.
The Feb. 11 talk by Rys Beybutova of Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz Republic, will present a lecture, “Building Civil Society in Central Asia.”
A panel discussion of the financial crisis in southeast Asia, “Asia In Crisis,” is set for Feb. 18. Panelists are WSU faculty members William Hallagan, economics; Li Ming Han, finance; and Patriya Tansuhaj, marketing.
On Feb. 25, Fritz Blackwell, a WSU history professor, will lecture on “Religion and Politics in South Asia.”
The uses of Arabic in the Muslim world is the topic of discussion for the March 4 lecture, “Religious Identity or Nationalism?” given by Nikolai Dobronavin of Russia’s St. Petersburg University.
