PULLMAN, Wash.–Washington State University Police Chief William Mercier says the investigation continues into the source of drugs that killed a 20-year-old Kelso man who was visiting friends on the Pullman campus two weeks ago, but there no indication they were obtained locally.
Baron Godwin was found unconscious in a hallway of Gannon residence hall Jan. 11. He was pronounced dead at Pullman Memorial Hospital.
Whitman County Coroner Pete Martin has attributed the death to an drug overdose. The coroner’s reports indicate Godwin’s blood tests showed a high morphine content, which is consistent with a heroin overdose, Mercier said.
The police chief says an investigation has shown no indication that the victim obtained the drugs in the Pullman area. Friends of the young man have been interviewed and they said no drugs were present at a party they attended, according to Mercier.
Godwin had recently resided at a drug rehabilitation center in Kennewick.
