WSU Rally Addresses Issues of Student Concern

PULLMAN, Wash.–Washington State University’s Chicano/Latino Graduate Student Association, CAMARADAS, is sponsoring a noontime rally here on Monday, Oct. 13, to address issues of student concern. The rally theme is “I pledge allegiance…with liberty and justice for all..”
Marilyn Bayona of CAMARADAS said the rally, from noon-1 p.m. on Glenn Terrell Mall, will “address issues crucial to the students of WSU. Student leaders and faculty from the Native American, Asian Pacific American, African American and Chicano/Latino communities will speak on lack of faculty of color, racial climate in the community, recruitment and retention issues, curriculum reform and Washington State Civil Rights Initiative Measure No. 200, described by Bayona as “anti-Affirmative Action legislation.”
She said the rally is the “first of many demonstrations to come as students mount pressure on the university to act on the demands of students immediately. CAMARADAS sponsored a march last October in conjunction with the Latino march in Washington, D.C. This year, with numerous issues affecting WSU students from various communities, it was more appropriate to have a solidarity rally. Everyone is invited to attend.”
