WSU Appoints Permanent Career Services Director

PULLMAN, Wash.–Washington State University’s Career Services and Student Advising and Learning Center have been formally joined under the leadership of Alton Jamison.
Vice Provost for Student Affairs K. J. “Gus” Kravas has appointed Jamison permanent director of Career Services. Jamison, who has been director of the Student Advising and Learning Center since 1994, became interim director of Career Services a year ago, following the resignation of John E. Adams.
“Stronger working relationships between the two units and with the rest of the academic community have been forged under Al Jamison’s leadership,” Kravas said. “The result has been a much more effective service for all students.”
The Career Services program helps students identify career choices and prepare for employment, and coordinates campus visits by private and public sector personnel recruiters.
Before coming to WSU, Jamison was director of the University Learning Center at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. He began his career in education as a teacher on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and later taught reading and math in the Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall. In addition, he has extensive experience in development and implementation of learning strategy programs in Arizona.
Jamison received a bachelor’s degree from California State University at Stanislaus in 1967, a bachelor’s in education from Northeastern Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree in psychology from Northern Arizona University and a doctorate in higher education organization and administration from the University of Arizona in 1993.
