Eric Bruns, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, will discuss the array of real world strategies that are being innovated and applied in public child-serving systems.
Last year, third-year architecture students designed portable homeless shelters and the exhibit includes a full-scale version of one of them. As part of the project, the students were asked to design an affordable, portable, flexible, compact and efficient shelter for homeless people, using computational design and emergent technologies.

Yale University sociology Professor Elijah Anderson will discuss the resilience of the “cosmopolitan canopy” — a metaphor for civil society — and how the canopy can help teach, reinforce and spread social tolerance and mutual understanding.
