Seminar: Nanofabrication for lithium metal batteries and perovskite solar cells

Presented December 5 in ETRL 101 at 11 a.m. to  noon by Dr. Quinn Qiao, Harold C. Hohbach Endowed Professor and Graduate Director in Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering at South Dakota University.

Lithium metal anodes are expected to drive practical applications that require high energy‐density storage. However, direct use of metallic lithium causes safety concerns, low rate capabilities, and poor cycling performance due to unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and undesired lithium dendrite growth. We developed new nanofabrication methods using plasma enhanced deposition of Li3N and radio frequency sputtered graphite‐SiO2 ultrathin bilayer on Li metal chips as effective solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) layers. These led to a dendrite free uniform Li deposition to achieve a stable voltage profile and outstanding long hours plating/stripping compared to the bare Li. In this talk, nanofabrication for perovskite photovoltaics including Room temperature air growth of large scale perovskite nanorods will be presented for applications in photovoltaics. Additive Manufacturing such as 3D printing is a potential technology for cost effective fabrication of lithium metal batteries and perovskite solar cells. https://mme.wsu.edu/seminar-series/
