Microsoft to enable new version of Outlook for Windows, January 2026

In January 2026, Microsoft will transition the Outlook desktop application on Windows devices from the classic interface to a new, updated interface.

Microsoft will implement this transition automatically for WSU users currently accessing the classic version of the Outlook desktop application on Windows devices.

This upcoming change will not impact WSU users already accessing the new version of the Outlook for Windows application, those who access Outlook through a web browser, or those using Outlook on Mac devices.

The new Outlook for Windows interface introduces changes to both appearance and functionality. Microsoft provides a feature comparison to help users understand what is included in the updated experience.

WSU users can switch back to the classic Outlook interface on their Windows devices if preferred. However, Microsoft may require another transition in the future.

Review instructions for reverting to the classic interface of the Outlook desktop application on Windows devices.
