“Do We Have Moral Autonomy?” Coffee & Politics with Alfred Mele

The Foley Institute’s Coffee & Politics Series continues with a discussion with Alfred Mele: “Do We Have Moral Autonomy?: The Power of Situations, People, and Education.”

Philosophers, scientists, and theologians alike have argued for centuries about moral autonomy. Whether people have free will or whether other forces shape our actions is a debate had by many disciplines. Alfred Mele, a leading researcher and philosopher of conscious decision making and moral autonomy, will discuss the intersection of neuroscience and philosophy.

Alfred Mele is the William H. and Lucyle T. Werkmeister Professor of Philosophy at Florida State University. As a philosopher, he specializes in the philosophy of action, such as the concepts of free-will and autonomy, with numerous publications including A Dialogue of Free Will and Science (2013), Effective Intentions (2009), and Free Will and Luck (2006).
