2026 Tax exemption W‑4 deadline

The Internal Revenue Service requires all employees who claimed total exemption from federal income taxes in calendar year 2025 to refile a new W‑4 form no later than Feb. 15. Employees who do not renew their exemption on a new W‑4 form by the Feb. 15 deadline will be defaulted to the highest withholding level which is, withhold tax as if he or she is single or married filing separately with no other entries in step 2, 3, and 4. Tax refunds will not be issued for failing to update their W‑4 exemption by the required deadline. Employees can update their withholding elections through Workday employee self-service events. A reference guide for completing the election can be found online.

The IRS has tools available to assist employee’s in completing their elections. Payroll personnel are not able to advise on completing tax withholdings.
