PEBB Eligible Employees: The spouse/domestic partner coverage medical premium surcharge is coming. What do YOU need to do?

From April 1 through May 15, employees enrolled in a PEBB medical plan, who are carrying their spouse/domestic partner on their coverage, will need to address
surcharge questions to determine if a $50/month surcharge will be applicable to them.

To answer the surcharge questions in April, employees will need to do the following:

  • Create their HCA “My Account”, if they have not already done so. It is through this online account that you will address the surcharge questions.
  • Complete the “Spousal Plan Questionnaire”, which will take them through a series of questions to see if the surcharge may be applicable.  If they answer “No” to any of the questions asked, they will not be subject to the surcharge.
  • If the employee answers “Yes” to all the questions, they will also complete the Spousal Plan Calculator.  A copy of their spouse’s/partner’s Summary of Benefits and Coverage for the medical plan they are offered will be needed to complete the calculator.

If an employee is subject to the surcharge, or if they fail to address the surcharge questions, they will see the additional charge, with an effective date of July, 2014.

Additionally, if an employee would like to make adjustments to the plan of coverage, or what family members they are covering, they will have the option to make these changes also during the April 1 through May 15 period.
