Office of Research Advancement and Partnerships has the pleasure to host Dr. William (Bill) J. Cooper, NSF Program Director, on Friday, September 15. The program will be as follows:

2 p.m. – Research Seminar by Dr. Cooper, Topic: Recent studies of NOM excited states in the photochemical (sunlight) fate of organic compounds and application in the design and optimization of constructed wetlands; Lighty 405
Dr. Cooper received his B. S. in Chemistry from Allegheny College. He then studied Organic Geochemistry at Penn State and received his M. S. His Ph. D. is in Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Miami. He has held various appointments at Florida International University, such as Director of the Drinking Water Research Center and Associate Professor of Chemistry, and at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, as Chair of Chemistry for the first three years and then Professor. He moved to UC Irvine as the Director of the Urban Water Research Center as a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He holds appointments in Chemical Engineering, and the Department of Policy, Planning and Design in the School of Social Ecology.
Dr. Cooper’s program responsibilities at NSF have included Environmental Engineering and Partnerships for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity (PFI:BIC).
