Please join WSU President Kirk Schulz and Vice President for Research Christopher Keane for the Innovation and Outreach Speaker Series, featuring Tracey Holloway. The speaker series features prominent speakers from across the United States to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to learn more about successful university-led innovation and entrepreneurship activities.

The U.S. air quality management system has been remarkably effective at yielding health benefits, and new technologies hold promise to tackle remaining challenges. Dr. Holloway will discuss two emerging trends in air quality analysis: energy modeling and satellite data. In both cases, new methods complement the approaches used by counties, states, and the federal Environmental Protection Agency to achieve clean air goals, yet neither methodology fits clearly into the regulatory framework of the Clean Air Act. She will present her research applying these methods, along with a broader discussion on the potential to connect new science with air quality policy and planning.

Dr. Holloway is a Professor in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and leads an air quality research program in the Nelson Institute Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE). SAGE connects science with decision making on energy, land use, public health, and more—the science policy interface around environmental issues. Holloway’s research employs computer models and satellite data to understand links between regional air quality, energy, and climate.

We will hold a reception featuring cookies and beverages prior to the lecture, starting at 3:00 p.m. This event is hosted by the Center for Environmental Research, Education, and Outreach (CEREO) and supported by the Office of the President and Office of Research.
