Abstract: While serving as a Program Director in the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research in the past year, I had the opportunity to work on the Condensed Matter Physics Program, the Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC) Program, and the Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer Our Future (DMREF) Program.  I also served as Co-Chair of the NSF Mathematical and Physical Sciences Directorate Working Group on Quantum Leap, one of the “Ten Big Ideas” for new research initiatives proposed by the NSF Director last year.  Based on this work, I will discuss current NSF programs in materials research and the development of new research initiatives focusing on quantum materials.
