PULLMAN, Wash. — African American males and females are needed to
audition for a spring theater production at Washington State University.
Auditions are set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in WSU’s Daggy Hall, Room 232.
Chosen cast members will be part of the WSU production of “For Colored Girls
Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.” The play, written
by Ntozake Shange, will be staged Feb. 10-12 at Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.
“For Colored Girls…” concerns the brutal treatment afflicted on black women
by their men. It captures the inner feelings of black women united in sorrow,
spirit, pride and soul, said Phyllis Gooden-Young, a member of the School of
Music and Theatre Arts faculty.
Those who audition will recite a monologue that is available from the theater
office in Daggy Hall, Room 320, and demonstrate a dance movement that will
be taught during auditions. Prior theater experience is not a requirement.
