Hispanic Heritage Month Events Planned by WSU Tri-Cities Students

A series of six Hispanic Heritage Month events are planned by the Associated Students of WSU Tri-Cities. All events are held at WSU Tri-Cities, 2710 University Drive in Richland. Admission to each event is free and open to the public.
 
National Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Congress established National Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 and expanded in 1988 to a month-long recognition of the accomplishments of Hispanic-American citizens. The WSU Tri-Cities Hispanic Heritage Month event schedule includes:
  •  Presentation by David Cortinas, publisher of La Voz Hispanic Newspaper, 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Atrium.
  •  “Latinos in Washington,” a lecture by José Garcia-Pabón, WSU assistant professor of Community and Rural Sociology and a Latino Community Development specialist, 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Atrium.
  •  Performance by Charros, a Pasco School District boys rope-dancing group 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Atrium.
  •  Discussion Forum: Changing Gender Roles in Latin Culture, 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Atrium. Forum participants include WSU Tri-Cities students Gloria Diaz and Sara Sanchez talking about the challenges they faced in continuing their educations.
  •  Presentation by Albert Torres about his personal journey to become a businessman and publisher of Tú Decides Bilingual Newspaper, 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Atrium.
  •  Film showing, “Frida” starring Salma Hayek, 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the East Building Auditorium. 

 Washington State University Tri-Cities is located along the Columbia River in Richland, Wash.
