‘A Taste of Germany’

Simmering Swiss and Muenster cheeses. Mouth-watering sausage.  Sauerkraut?  Whether the most appealing combination of toppings or not, the Oktoberfest pizza disappeared within minutes of being pulled off the oven at the Stephenson Dining center Monday.  The pizza was the first item on the menu for “A Taste of Germany”, the second installment in WSU Dining Services’ Passport to a Culinary Adventure, a series of month-long events showcasing foods from around the world.

A different German dish will be offered each day of the week from 11 a.m. through dinner at all three of WSU’s primary dining centers: Hillsdale Café, Northside Café and Stephenson Dining.

On Wednesday night, Dining Service staffs will swap out their aprons for feathered hats and lederhosens for a special German dinner at Stephenson Dining and Northside Café beginning at 4:30 p.m. “We’ll have Hansel and Gretel pouring root beer out of kegs,” said Greg Blanchard, a manager and chef for Dining Services.

The Passport to a Culinary Adventure began in September with a “A Taste of Jamaica”.

One of the motivations behind the Culinary Adventure program is to provide a change of pace for students and staff, said Brian Keithley, general manager for Dining Services.
“Some students eat at dining halls almost everyday,” he said. “This gives a little burst of energy to the environment and students.”
