U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Shoreline, will speak at Washington State University’s fall commencement set for 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, in Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.
The address by Murray, a 1972 WSU graduate, will be given at the second fall commencement in the university’s 112-year history. Murray is the first WSU graduate to serve in the U.S. Senate. Previously, she was the commencement speaker in spring 1994.
“Senator Murray is a great friend of education and loyal to her alma mater,” said WSU President V. Lane Rawlins. “Her background as a school board member, parent and active local citizen has served our state well in the Senate.”
Scott Dickinson, president of the Associated Students of WSU, also will speak, and Rawlins will preside.
A total of 381 students took part in the first fall commencement last year. About 500 students are expected this year.
