Agricultural and resource economics professors Ken Casavant and Doug Young were chosen as two of the three inaugural Distinguished Scholars of the Western Agricultural Economics Association. This is the highest recognition for individuals making an enduring contribution over their careers to agricultural, resource, and/or environmental economics in the western states and provinces and the WAEA. The third person named was Hal Carter of the University of California Davis.
Casavant, a nationally renowned transportation economist, has been a faculty member at WSU for 31 years. He has authored over 100 articles in a variety of journals, has won numerous teaching awards, and served in a number of official positions.
Young, a nationally renowned production economist, has been at WSU for 27 years. He is recognized for providing high-quality economics in projects relating to soil conservation, pest management, cropping systems, and farm risk management. He has served on numerous state and national panels.
