Bill McGrath, from the International City/County Management Association Retirement Corporation (ICMA-RC), will present a series of classes in May to WSU classified staff who participate in PERS 3. McGrath’s classes will address two topics – investment options and retirement benefit distributions. They will be 90 minutes long and offered on the Spokane, TriCities and Pullman campuses. * The Investment Options class informs participants of the choices they have between two investment programs: the Washington State Investment Program or the Self-Directed Investment Program. Although participants can contribute to only one at a time, they can have assets in both programs; AND they can move any portion from one program to the other. In each program, there are various investment funds representing diversified portfolios.
* In the Retirement Benefit Distributions class, participants learn about making withdrawals from their defined contribution money once they separate from all PERS-covered employment or officially retire from WSU. Payment of these funds may be taken under a variety of payment plans, including installments, lump sums or rollovers, which can be designed to fit specific retirement goals.
