The first ever class of freshmen on the WSU Vancouver campus arrived for their first day of classes Monday, Sept. 20. Approximately 50 freshmen began their pursuits of bachelor’s degrees in the high-demand fields of mechanical engineering, biology and computer science, offered by Vancouver’s new Engineering and Science Institute.
Although freshmen previously have enrolled at WSU Vancouver via a co-admission program with area community colleges, all their freshmen- and sophomore-year courses were taught at the community colleges. With opening of the institute at WSU Vancouver, all four years of courses, from psychology and English to engineering and science, will be taught at that campus.
The students still are part of the co-admission program with Clark Community College, and Clark personnel teach some of their courses. Legislative and other funding for the institute and for high-demand programs also made the change possible.
