The Washington State University Health and Wellness Services and the Office of Campus Involvement will sponsor an art exhibit Feb. 8-25 titled “Get Real: Food, Media and Our Bodies” at the WSU Compton Union Gallery.
“Get Real” will feature the artwork of Portland, Ore., artist Kelly Williams and California artist Robin Lasser. Williams tackles issues of beauty, body image and self worth in relation to American advertising and general media manipulation in her mixed-media series “Aprons and Ties.”
Lasser will feature photographs of monumental sculptures called “Food Forks,” from her series “American Eats,” that replicates the mindset of individuals trying to find control in life through food and eating.”
The exhibit coincides with the annual Eating Disorders Awareness Week, which promotes positive body image through awareness and education, focusing on food, exercise and proper nutrition.
The Compton Union Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and is free and open to the public.
