From developing Wagyu beef to replacing methyl bromide, the IMPACT Center at WSU will be celebrating. The IMPACT Center will hold a Nov. 3 reception at the Lewis Alumni Centre to honor pioneers in international agriculture from WSU throughout the IMPACT Center’s 20 year history.
Over the past 20 years, the IMPACT (International Marketing for Agricultural Commodities and Trade) Center supported over 100 students and currently is supporting 40 research funded projects. IMPACT’s Director, Dr. Thomas I. Wahl, and founder and former director, Dr. Desmond O’Rouke, will be reflecting upon 20 years of success at the reception.
The Washington State Legislature established the IMPACT Center at WSU in 1985 to address issues important to the future of Washington agriculture, food systems and the state economy.
The IMPACT Center’s Annual Meeting will be held prior to their anniversary reception. IMPACT’s annual meeting offers a unique chance to see presentations of cutting–edge research and the IMPACT Center’s contributions to improving agriculture’s position in international trade in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. With its emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to projects, the meeting will also include work from scientists from departments across CAHNRS and WSU.
The IMPACT Center will continue to use science and technology to improve the competitiveness of Washington’s and America’s food and agricultural systems in today’s global market in years to come.
