WSU Press will host its 14th annual Holiday Book Fair 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, on the second floor of the CUB. WSU Press publishes scholarly books with a cultural or historical relationship to the Pacific Northwest.
The fair is the only time each year that every WSU Press book is available to the local community at discounts of 20-50 percent. New titles will be 30 percent off the list price.
Two WSU Press authors, Jack Nisbet and Craig Holstine, whose titles focus on eastern Washington themes, will sign copies of their books from noon to 2 p.m.
Jack Nisbet’s “The Mapmaker’s Eye” is a biography of the intrepid Canadian adventurer David Thompson, who explored and surveyed the wild Columbia River in 1807-12, immediately after Lewis and Clark. Thompson also established trading posts that eventually grew into Spokane and other regional towns.
“Spanning Washington,” by Craig Holstine and Rick Hobbs, provides accounts and photographs of historic highway bridges throughout the state. It includes early wooden frontier structures, feats of amazing engineering and construction in the 20th century and several spectacular collapses, such as the Tacoma Narrows span in 1940.
Book fair patrons can win free books, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and receive gift cards, postcards and bookmarks.
