Graduate art show displays variety of content, media

Graduate students will present their works of art at the annual Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition, April 14-May 7, at the Museum of Art at WSU Pullman. The opening reception will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14.

A wide range of subject matter and style will be exhibited in a variety of media including ceramics, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture.

“Each student is allowed to shine on their own, find their own path,” said Chris Watts , a professor in the Fine Arts department and this year’s graduate adviser. He has been the formal coordinator of the master of fine arts students for six years.

“The exhibit illustrates our hard work and commitment to the arts,” said student Daiken Asakawa, a native of Tokyo, Japan, and a sculptor since 1997. In addition to Asakawa, the other artists represented include Ron Davis, drawing; Jason Gatewood, sculpture; Zach Mazur, photography; Rafael Ortega, sculpture; Shane Prine, drawing; Daniela Rumpf, ceramics; Jennifer Scott, photography; and Josephine Topholm, printmaking.

Funding for museum exhibitions and programs for the fiscal year is provided by the Friends of the Museum of Art. Visit the WSU Museum of Art website at www.wsu.edu/artmuse.
