PULLMAN — WSU faculty, staff and students, Pullman residents and other interested constituents will have a chance to voice their opinions about the proposed University District during four scheduled forums.
The forums will take place:
- 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Compton Union Building (CUB) Auditorium on the WSU Pullman campus
- 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Community Congregational United Church, 525 NE Campus St. in Pullman
- 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, p.m., in the CUB Auditorium

6-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Gladish Community Center View Room, 115 NW State Street in Pullman
WSU President Elson S. Floyd said in a recent open letter to students, faculty, staff and community members that he would offer the forums. The goal of the forums is to provide opportunities for all interested stakeholders to ask questions and share their opinions on the proposal with the WSU president.
Floyd and other WSU officials have been collaborating with the City of Pullman in developing the proposed University District. The district would encompass much of what is known as College Hill—an area managed by the city where students greatly outnumber permanent residents.
“With that in mind, we believe that the university should resume greater responsibility and become more accountable in helping to enhance the living experience and safety of our students and others living on or near College Hill,” Floyd stated in his letter.
The proposal calls for cooperative policing of the area, better monitoring of parking in the neighborhood, improved public safety, code enforcement, and traffic flow.

The proposal was presented to the Pullman City Council on Sept. 9 for ratification. When many WSU students attended the meeting to express opposition to the proposal, Floyd requested that the proposal be tabled to allow for more public input.
