Wilson Road Project to Affect Traffic, Pedestrians, Parking

PULLMAN, Wash. — A construction project to upgrade utilities and rebuild Wilson Road east of Stadium Way to Quad Services Road will begin the week of May 17. The road, which runs between the French Administration Building and Johnson Hall on the Washington State University campus in Pullman, will be closed periodically during the construction and is scheduled for completion by the end of July.

Construction officials hope to minimize disruptions to traffic and parking patterns by doing the project in phases. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to watch for heavy construction traffic in the area throughout the project.

Early in the project, the only access to the parking lot south of the Johnson Hall parking lot will be from Stadium Way. Later, Wilson Road will be closed to all traffic and parking; the Johnson Hall parking lot will be closed, and pedestrian access will be limited. Alternate metered parking and disabled parking will be available east of Lighty Student Services Building.

Hulbert Hall’s east parking lot will be open throughout the project. In the early phases, access to this lot will be from South Fairway Road and Ellis Way. The Alumni Centre parking lot also will remain open throughout the project. When Wilson Road is closed to traffic, the only access to the lot will be from Grimes Way.

Additional Green 1 parking will remain available for the duration of the project east of Hulbert Hall, off Quad Services Road and in the large lot south of French Administration Building. Green 1 permits are also valid in Yellow, Red and Blue parking zones. Also, a new Green 1 parking lot east of L.J. Smith will become available sometime during the project.

Visitors and guests to WSU should be directed to the WSU Visitor Center, located in downtown Pullman at the corner of Grand Avenue and Davis Way, to receive updates on the latest construction and visitor parking information. Call (509) 335-8633 for more information.
