PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Solstice Wind Quintet will perform at 2 p.m., June 9, in the WSU Museum of Art.
WSU faculty members Ann Yasinitsky, flute; Gary Plowman, oboe; James Schoepflin, clarinet; Susan Hess, bassoon; Roger Logan, horn; and Gerald Berthiaume, piano will perform two pieces with a French motif, “Trois Pieces Breves” by Jacques Ibert and “Quintette” by Jean Francaix.
“There is a rich heritage of fine wind writing by French composers, particularly in the early part of the 20th century – we selected two of the best,” Schoepflin said.
The final piece by Gordon Jacob is “Sextet for Piano and Wind Quintet.”
The quintet’s first professionally-released compact disk will be available June 3 and at the performance. It also is available at the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts by request.
