Washington State University announces the appointment of Terri Parr Wynecoop as executive director & presidential liaison for Tribal relations. Parr will continue to serve as WSU’s senior leader for government-to-government relations with Native American Tribes, transitioning from the interim role she has held since December 2025.
“Washington State University’s relationships with the sovereign Tribal Nations of our region are built on respect, trust, and a commitment to true partnership,” said President Betsy Cantwell. “Terri has earned the confidence of Tribal leaders and of the WSU community through her thoughtful leadership and deep understanding of this work. Her appointment ensures the continuity of relationships that are essential to advancing our shared priorities and honoring our responsibilities as a land-grant institution.”
Reporting directly to President Cantwell, the role provides strategic oversight of the Office of Tribal Relations and represents the university in matters related to Tribal engagement and consultation.
Parr, an Elder and member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, has served as WSU’s tribal liaison for special projects since the summer of 2023 following nearly two decades with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians. During her time with WSU, she has strengthened relationships with Tribal Nations throughout the region and reinforced the university’s commitment to meaningful government-to-government partnerships.
The permanent appointment of Parr is an important step for WSU to further its land grand promise and commitment to shared success with the Tribal Nations.
