Canvas course content removal, July 2026

In accordance with the student records retention schedule outlined in the University Policies and Procedures Manual (UPPM), Canvas course content is retained for five years after the end of the fiscal year in which the course was taught.

Starting Wednesday, July 1, course content from Spring 2021 and earlier terms will be permanently removed from Canvas. Once removed, content cannot be recovered.

Scheduled content removals apply only to credit and non-credit courses. Sandbox and continuous courses (non-credit courses with no end date) are not impacted.

WSU instructors and their departments are responsible for exporting any content that must be retained before the course’s scheduled removal date.

For instructions on exporting Canvas course content and details on UPPM 90.01 (University Records–Retention and Disposition), please review the Canvas Course Retention and Deletion support article.

Please contact WSU’s Canvas Technical Support team via email at ats.aoi@wsu.edu or phone at 509-335-4320 for any questions.
