Reminder: July 11 deadline for units to submit budget implementation plans

Department leaders across the Washington State University system have until July 11 to submit implementation plans detailing how they’ll allocate funding provided in the fiscal year 2026 operating budget.

Approved by the WSU Board of Regents earlier this month, the coming year’s core fund budget was reduced by $17 million, or 4.1%, compared to the prior fiscal year. Core funds include money from tuition, state appropriations, and certain administrative revenues. The reduction in core funding comes as the university grapples with a base reduction in state funding as well as uncertainty about federal research funding.

Funding reductions for units range from 0–10%, though six units were excluded due to critical academic or operational needs.

In the 30 days following approval of the budget, unit leaders are considering how to implement and manage any prescribed cuts in funding. They’ll then submit those plans to Finance and Administration for review and approval.
