The WSU Association for Faculty Women invites all community members to attend our 50th anniversary “Celebration of Trailblazing Women in Classical Music” on Monday, March 31, from 5–7 p.m. in the Terrell Library Atrium on the Pullman campus.
WSU School of Music faculty — Chris Dickey, Fabio Menchetti, Sophia Tegart, Julie Anne Wieck, and Jacqui Wilson — are excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Association for Faculty Women with a concert featuring music by women composers. The program will open with ”Just a Day,” a song cycle for voice and piano by Joanna Kenyon, who wrote both the music and lyrics of the five songs. We will then listen to “Four Fugitive Pieces Op. 15” for solo piano by Clara Wieck Schumann, one of the most prominent composer from the Romantic era. A tuba, bassoon and piano trio will follow, performing “Conversations” by Barbara York, a delightful and engaging three-movement work. The concert will end with the sonata for flute and piano by Eugenie Rocherolle, where enchanting melodies and lively rhythms create a charming and unique atmosphere. This will be an incredible opportunity to celebrate women and their music through a concert that is not to be missed!
