Human Resource Services has developed a training to guide managers in effectively overseeing their staff through the transition from overtime exempt to overtime eligible. Sessions are available throughout January and are now open for registration. View dates and times of the sessions.

- How to implement effective workload distribution
- How to help staff maintain work-life balance through the transition, and
- How to evaluate staffing and processes
The instructors will also lead the group through several scenarios as well as conduct a question-and-answer session.
Why are employees moving to overtime eligible? On July 1, 2020, Washington State Labor and Industries (L&I) implemented employment rules regarding the state overtime exemptions. In these employment rules L&I finalized the minimum salary an employee must earn to be exempt from overtime which differs from the federal requirements. The salary L&I salary threshold will change annually through 2028. Effective January 1, 2025, current overtime exempt employees must earn at least $6,497.40 per month ($77,968.80 annually) to continue to be ineligible for overtime pay.
