The Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC) and the Professional Development in Composition Committee (PDC) of the English Department at WSU invite you to the fourth workshop of the EDIC-PDC Workshop Series 2024–25.

Title: “Palouse Reads: A Community Literacy Project”
Abstract: In this presentation, Professor Ashley Boyd and Doctoral Candidate Rachael Wolney will share their work creating and implementing a project in which local community members were invited to participate in collaborative reading and dialogue around social justice issues raised in young adult literature (YAL) such as mental health and food insecurity, and representatives from outreach organizations in the community were invited to share their connections to the books’ foci. Attendees will examine brief excerpts of data and will discuss our own university needs in related areas.
Ashley S. Boyd (she/her) is a professor of English education and Director of University Common Requirements (UCORE) at Washington State University. She researches practicing teachers’ social justice pedagogies as well as avenues for cultivating students’ critical literacies.
Rachael R. Wolney (she/her) is a 5th year doctoral candidate in the Department of English at Washington State University. Her research interests include Disability Studies, Young Adult Literature, and Education.
