Former Defense Secretary Mattis being honored with Foley Institute award Tuesday evening in Spokane

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis will be honored with the inaugural Thomas S. Foley Award for Distinguished Public Service this evening in Spokane.

Mattis, a retired four-star Marine Corps general and Pullman native, will receive the award at a ceremony at the John J. Hemmingson Center on the Gonzaga University campus. The event will also be livestreamed on TVW.

The Distinguished Service Award will be given each year to individuals who have demonstrated integrity, courage, and a commitment to democratic values in public service.
