New Microsoft Teams experience available tomorrow, Nov. 9

In early January 2024, Microsoft will set the new Microsoft Teams app as the default platform. To provide you with the opportunity to adopt the new Teams experience before this upcoming change, Information Technology Services (ITS) will enable a “Try the new Teams” option that will appear in the upper-left corner of your Teams classic app tomorrow, Nov. 9.

All WSU users are encouraged to activate by clicking the “Try the new Teams” button. Users who opt-in to the new Teams app beginning Nov. 9 can expect to see a similar user experience to the current, classic Teams app. If you currently access Teams on a WSU-owned device, please transition to the new Teams app in coordination and with the assistance of your local IT support team.

Although the new Teams app will become the default choice in January, you will now have the ability to disable the new Teams and revert to Teams classic until March 31, 2024. On this date, Microsoft will automatically update all remaining users of classic Teams to new Teams and remove the option to move back to classic Teams.

ITS continues to recommend all WSU faculty, staff, and students upgrade to the new client on Nov. 9 or as soon as possible to ensure a smooth user transition ahead of Microsoft’s mandated Teams changes in January and March.
