Stephany RunningHawk Johnson will present a Common Reading talk on “Including Indigenous Wisdom in Science Education” today, Feb. 13, at 4 p.m. on Zoom.
RunningHawk Johnson, an assistant professor in WSU’s College of Education and a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation, will talk about how science curriculum can be shaped in ways that inspire both Native students and students from all backgrounds. She brings to her work experience as a middle school math and science teacher as well ongoing collaborations with several regional tribal communities. RunningHawk Johnson is also the co-editor of “On Indian Ground: A Return to Indigenous Knowledge.”
RunningHawk Johnson’s talk is one of a year-long series of events being hosted by the WSU Common Reading Program to complement use of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants” as the 2022–24 WSU Common Reading.
