Announcement: In collaboration between Washington State University’s MLK Program and Department of English, the Campus Civic Poet committee is seeking submissions for the 2022–2023 Campus Civic Poet Award.
Award: The award for Campus Civic Poet is intended to celebrate a student’s commitment to activism and spoken word in our campus community. It includes a $500 honorarium, mentorship, and invitation to read at civic-related events such as the annual MLK Celebration, the National Day of Racial Healing, and the Elson S. Floyd Cultural & Performing Arts Series.
Qualifications: This award is intended to celebrate a student’s commitment to spoken word and activism. Any student, regardless of major, who pairs poetry and civic engagement is encouraged to apply.
Requirements: To be considered for the Campus Civic Poet award, candidates should submit 3–5 poems of original work and a 200‑word statement on their commitment to student engagement.
