Patrick Hayes & Javier Hernandez, Department of Crop and Soil Science, OSU, presents, “Barley Resists! Dealing with the Challenges of Climate Change.”
Dr. Hernandez’s research includes: plant breeding and genomics in crop improvement. The primary focus is barley, and resistance to biotic/abiotic stress. He is focused on finding new sources of resistance to stem rust/stripe rust and introgressing this resistance into more adapted germplasm to develop multi-rust resistant lines adapted to the PNW.
Dr. Hayes’s research includes: development of winter and facultative habit malting barley varieties; winter hardiness; disease resistance; characterization and utilization of genetic diversity; stimulating production; development of multi-use naked barley for organic and conventional systems; and exploring barley genotype on beer flavor.
Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 12:10 p.m. via Zoom.
