The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication “Power of Voice” speaker series continues on Tuesday, November 9, at 4:00 p.m. The panel discussion, “Communicating Health in an Era of Mistrust,” will focus on how communication professionals in journalism, strategic communication, and academia use culturally meaningful communication to promote vaccination.
Faculty member Amanda Boyd, associate professor of risk communication, will lead the discussion. Her research program focuses on health and science communication – particularly how risks are communicated to and perceived among rural and Indigenous populations.
Panelists include Jourdan Bennett-Begaye, managing editor for Indian Country Today; Alyssa Mayeda, communications manager at the Seattle Indian Health Board; and Rachel (Chedda) Ellenwood, Murrow College graduate student with research interests in the healthcare field with a special focus on American Indians.
Launched in October 2020, Murrow College developed the speaker series to serve as a catalyst to engage the community in discussions and dialogues surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion, race, and social justice issues.
