The Thomas S. Foley Institute will host Bruno Baltodano of Florida Southwestern State University, who will discuss the issue of inequality and indigenous self-determination in Bolivia on Wednesday, September 15 at 12 p.m.
In Jesús de Machaca, a rural, indigenous community in Bolivia, elections are held yearly for the highest political position, Jilakatas, in a process that was codified into law in the 2009 Constitution. Baltodano will talk about how this fits into the larger context of anti-colonialism and self-determination movements in the Americas.
This event will be streamed live on the Foley Institute’s YouTube channel.
