Email encryption now available for Outlook at WSU

In just a few easy steps, Microsoft’s Office 365 Message Encryption now allows WSU email senders to encrypt outgoing messages to any email recipients.

Recipients of these encrypted messages using Hotmail or Outlook for desktop or mobile device receive automatically decrypted emails in their inbox. Recipients using Hotmail, Outlook, and Office 365 accounts via Gmail or Yahoo! can authenticate into those services to view their decrypted email message.

While Information Technology Services completes the current HIPAA security rule assessment for WSU’s Office 365 environment and addresses needed security adjustments, the use of Office 365 applications and services to store, process, or transmit Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is not recommended.

Additional instructions and frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) for email encryption at WSU can be viewed in the Crimson Service Desk Knowledge Base.

Additional email encryption resources can be found at crimsonservicedesk.wsu.edu for Outlook 2016/2019 for Windows, Outlook 2019 for Mac, and for Outlook Web.
