TODAY, 10 a.m.-Noon: Summer NSF-funded REU undergraduate research virtual presentations

Summer undergraduate researchers from 15 universities across the nation will deliver virtual presentations on their work and results Friday starting at 10 a.m., and the public is invited to listen in.

The students are participants in two NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates programs at WSU, both in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture.

The two REUs are:

  • “Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Training in Wearable Computing,” led by Hassan Ghasemzadeh, associate professor [https://epsl.eecs.wsu.edu]
  • “Undergraduate Research in Smart Environments,” led by Larry Holder, professor [https://reu.eecs.wsu.edu]

In addition to these PI’s, several faculty have served as mentors, supported by graduate assistants.a

How can you watch the presentations?  Contact Holder at holder@wsu.edu, and graduate student Samir Sbai at samir.sbai@wsu.edu for information ASAP.

Summer REU programs have been popular at WSU for more than a decade, with capstone poster sessions on the final day of the 10-week sessions. This year, restrictions on in-person teaching and learning were necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic so the students accepted to participate could not research in person.  Only two of a dozen programs moved ahead by creating virtual connections to student researchers.

The Notices and Announcements section is provided as a service to the WSU community for sharing events such as lectures, trainings, and other highly transactional types of information related to the university experience.
