Learn how to support the mental wellbeing of Cougs

Learn how to identify Cougs in crisis and connect them with support by signing up for a training at Cougar Health Services this semester. Two training options are available for students, faculty and staff.

Campus Connect

This two‑hour suicide prevention training program is offered free of charge for WSU staff and students. Participants learn statistics and facts about college student suicide, how to ask if someone is feeling suicidal, appropriate referrals as well as active listening, communication, and relationship building skills. Online registration is available via Cougar Health Services.

Fall Semester Sessions:

  • Tuesday, Sept.‑10: 1:30‑p.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 2: 2:10 p.m.–4:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 29: 10:40 a.m.–12:40 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20: 1:10 p.m.–3:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 3: 1:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid

This 8‑hour training teaches skills to help someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants in this training learn about symptoms, crisis response, and active listening skills to support someone who is experiencing a mental health disorder such as depression and anxiety, trauma, psychosis, eating disorders and substance abuse.

The training costs $40 per participant; It is free for WSU Pullman students with support from student activity fees. If you’d like to pay for Mental Health First Aid using an IRI, you can submit it through the online form at the time of registration. Online registration is available via Cougar Health Services.

Fall Semester Sessions:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 4 & Thursday, Sept. 5: 12:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 8 & Thursday, Oct. 10: 3:30 p.m.–8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 9: 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
